KONINGSWYK - The State Opening of the Koninklike Vergadering was held following the appointment of the now Marquess Scott to the office of Lord Speaker.
The State Opening - wherein the Sovereign opens the floor of the Koninklike Vergadering with an address from the Throne - was held on Saturday, 27 January; a day later than originally announced. King Joseph delivered the speech personally, though the Fundamental Law does allow a representative of the Sovereign to deliver the address on their behalf. The address was the first time the King has addressed a Natalian legislature since the dissolution of the Chamber of Lords in the Grand Ducal period of Natalian history. In the address, King Joseph listed the actions of the Crown in the months following the enactment of the Decree of Koningswyk and laid out the goals of His Royal and Apostolic Majesty's Government under the leadership of Lord Chancellor the Duke van Dullahan. The full text of the address can be read here. In the days following the State Opening, Natal observed two national holidays: King Charles the Martyr's Day and The King's Birthday. King Charles the Martyr's Day is the feast day of Charles the Martyr, more commonly known as King Charles I of England. Prior to his execution at the hands of Oliver Cromwell and his New Model Army, Charles was offered his life in exchange for the abolition of the episcopacy of the Church of England, however he refused and was sentenced to death. King Charles the Martyr is the patron saint of Natal, and the seat of power of the Natalian Monarchy, Charles the Martyr's Palace, is named for him. The King's Birthday celebrates the date of birth of King Joseph, and is celebrated publicly within the Kingdom as a holiday and in private by the Royal Family. The King celebrated his birthday with a dinner attended by the Earl and Countess of Rotterdam (that is, the King's father and mother), the Duke of Albertschine, and two cousins of the King. The King also issued letters patent granting honours to a number of Natalian citizens, which can be read here.

KONINGSWYK - In the days following the third anniversary of Natalian Independence, His Royal and Apostolic Majesty the King has issued an historic royal decree. The decree, known as the Decree of Koningswyk, was issued by the King in the hopes of bringing activity back to the Government, which has been mostly inactive for the past few months. Among the provisions of the decree include ordering the Lord Chancellor to begin work on a "fundamental statute" for the Kingdom, dissolving the Privy Council and establishing a legislature - the Koninklike Vergadering - and seeking observational membership in the Grand Unified Micronational, an intermicronational organization of which the King has previously served as Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Supreme Judge. The decree has also abolished the Church of Natal, replacing the Archbishopric of Sint-Niklaas with the post of Chaplain to the Royal Household. When asked about the decree, the Lord Chancellor, Duke Bradley van Dullahan, stated "I think it is a great decree... I shall comply with it and aid [His Royal and Apostolic Majesty] in writing [a fundamental statute]." The King has yet to announce the members of the Koninklike Vergadering, but is expected to do so in the coming days. The Decree of Koningswyk can be read here.
